This has to be one of the first and best flies I ever used as a boy, fishing for trout in the River Gala in the Scottish Borders. I got them from "Turnbull's Tackle" and lovingly cast them across the river, holding and dropping behind the boulders as I had been told to do in the shop. All these years later, I find myself still returning to this classic early season fly time and time again for the first two months in the fishing calendar. Funnily enough, it never fails me now either. A true early season river pattern that is rarely far away from my leader until the start of May. Click on the photo to watch the tutorial.
