This is a coming together of two classic patterns from Scottish trout fishing: The Soldier Palmer and the Clan Chief. Although both patterns are outright winners I often feel the need to combine different aspects from different flies that go well together to create something new. The Soldier Palmer's classic hackled body separated with a golden rib and the trigger tail pattern of the Clan Chief seemed like two well suited bedfellows and the end result was a fly that caught extremely well especially in bright and breezy conditions. By breezy I should actually be honest and say gale force winds... it was one of two patterns that took apart one particular loch when all else failed. Not bad for a prototype!
